  1. Once upon a time Edward Fitzpatrick of Carrickallen was sent on a message to Fitzpatrick's shop of Mountain Lodge. As it was after dark and he was in a hurry he went on horseback. As he passed Dukes meadows he noticed a number of little people playing football in one of them. He wondered at this as he knew the people were none of the local boys. Then suddenly the players began to cheer and laugh at the rider who shouted to them "Stop that boys." One of them then came out and hit the horse on the leg with his fist. The horse was lame from that day forward. People said that if Fitzpatrick had been touched he would have been lame too.
