  1. A protestant who lived in Clarefield did not believe in St. Martin or in the customs observed on St. Martin's Day went ploughing on that day.
    He harnessed the horse and began to plough but he had not ploughed far when the swing broke and replaced it with another and began to plough againe.
    Then the whipstick broke and he replaced it with another iron one and ploughed away but as he was finishing the third shragh the horse's leg got broken and the man had to give up the work and ever afterwards he believed in St.Martin.
