  1. There were two shops around about here long ago. Mrs. Shaughnessy in Tullaroe had a grocer's shop Mrs. Maager in Tullaroe sold bread.
    Mrs. Kelly sold oil and Mr. Sweeney in Tarmon (sold) had a grocer's shop.
    They bought their groceries in Kilrush and they used to go in boats across the ferry.
    The customers bought their goods from those shopkeepers. Some of the people had tables outside the Church after Mass displaying their goods and the goods were bought by the people who were at Mass.
    Money was very scarce long ago, the old people thought a sixpence was riches, but some things at that time were very cheap
