“About one hundred years ago there lived in the townland of Cloonarkin between Kelley's and Brodericks, two brothers named Brennan.”
About one hundred years ago there lived in the townland of Cloonarkin between Kelley's and Brodericks, two brothers named Brennan. The foundation of the house in which they lived is still to be seen.
One of the brothers was married and had several children.
He, with his wife and children, lived in a part of the house.
The other brother, who was single, lived in another part of the house.
The married brother was known to be poor, whilst the other was known to have saved a goodly sun of money.
The married man, in the hope of getting the money, killed his brother.
For this crime he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. It is stated that he die din prison before the date fixed for the execution.
It is believed that he hid the money in the neighbourhood of the house for it is known that his wife on various occasions after his arrest was seen searching(continues on next page)- Collector
