- i. One time there was a foolish fellow out in the market and he went up to a cart of turnips. He asked the man what were they and the man said mare's eggs. The main said they were half-a-crown each. He bought one and going home he had to cross a river. He threw the turnip across and it landed in a whin-bush and a hare rang out of the whin and the boy thought it was a young foal. He ran back to the man who was selling the turnips and said ""Why didn't you tell me that the egg was hatched and that the young mare was ready to come out."(continues on next page)
