  1. There are many lone trees in this district. A lone tree is sometimes a thorn, ash, or sycamore. They always grow in the middle of a field. Not many people like to cut down or interfere with these trees as it is said any one who interferes with them will have bad luck. They are very troublesome when labouring the field with horses.
Once when Mr. Grey was going to labour a field, he went to cut down the lone tree but during the time he was away his child died and he was called home. In some time after he went back to cut down the rest of the tree and he hit his foot with the bill hook and cut his foot up the middle and he never went back to interfere with the tree.
