As they journeyed along, Jack asked the devil, could he turn himself into a hound, and the devil said he could, and Jack asked could he turn himself into a mouse, and he said that he could, Jack said that he would like to see it done, so he turned himself into a mouse, and ran around the road. So Jack caught the mouse, and put him into the purse, and took him home and kept sledging him, so the devil said "let me go and I wont have any more to do with you. So after that Jack died and went to the gates of hell, and the devil would not let him in, because he said he would destroy his people, so Jack went to the gates of heaven, but St Patrick would not let him in, so he gave him a Lantran to roam the world until the last day.
