The Conaught men in thousands led by Minor Reid with rifle men well armed and with bloody thoughts indeed
Did swear unto each other unless they were belied.
Each man that stood should aran some blood
    Down by the Shannon Side.
The ball was thrown aloft in air ,
Great shouts did ring the skies
Each hurler of OGonnelloe his strength and speed now trace
Like deer they ran and every man had a comrade by his side
Whilst the Connaught men tossed on the plains
    Down by the Shannon Side.
The Connaught men being now convinced that the should lose
Says each man to his loyal comrades dont have the least
But we will all unite in last strong bands and over them we will
And by our numbers great we will them defeat
    Down by the Shannon Side.
