- Weather Signs: The moon has a halo around it, we can expect rain. When there is a red sky in the east in the morning we will have rain before night. When the sun is very red setting in the evening we may expect frost.
The fowl and farm animals often indicate the kind weather coming. The hens cluster together and peck their feathers before rain comes. The farm animals cluster under the hedges before a storm. A cat coughs before bad weather comes. A dog eats grass when the weather is going to be bad. A cat scratches it forepaws against wood before a storm comes. Birds fly high - swallows when the weather is fine and low when the weather is going to be bad.
The smoke ascends from a chimney straight up in fine weather.
The noise of the river flowing is heard clearly when we are to have fine weather. Distance places such as the hills and mountains appear near us when there is going to be a break in the weather.
In this locality the people say if there is a ceo or fog on Shanacnoc the mountain forming the southern boundary of the townland, the weather will be very wet.- Collector
