    The Lore of Certain Days.
May Eve: (1) On this day it was customary to pull "Quick Beam" or Mountain Ash.Three pieces of the tree were stuck in each garden ,corn field, etc.,to protect the crops and make them prosper.Sprigs were put in different rooms in the house too,to protect it from harm.
    (2) Salt and holy water were put into the spring well on May Eve ,lest the water should become poisonous or injurious in any way.
No water was carried form the well on May Day.
People did not distribute butter or milk on May Day;and if a neighbour came for them, he was considered an enemy.
dead meat such as that of dead fowl or the other farm animals was put under an old pot and burnt on the fence or ditch .This was a charm to take away spite or enmity.
"Bad Neighbours " buried eggs in gardens to destroy the enemies crops.
