    still in vogue. Whenever one person gets a "setting" of duck-eggs or hen-eggs from another without payment the sum of one penny must be given to the donor if the eggs otherwise the 'luck' between them will be broken.
    In the case of calves dying of the disease known as 'black-quarter' the remedy for prevention of the spread of the disease is to take a quarter or a leg of an animal and hang it high up in the chimney. As long as the piece remains hanging there so long will the disease remain away. There is a house in the parish where such a piece remained for years and if I do not make a mistake it is still there.
