  1. Weather Forecasts
Long ago people had certain signs by which they could forecast the weather. Those who lived beside the sea had many other signs but we live inland and do not know these.
    Signs of Rain:
    Dark clouds
    Soot falling down the chimney
    Spiders leaving their cobwebs
Sun having pale colour when setting
    A halo around the moon
The moon lying on its back
    A rainbow in the morning
Damp walls, and damp flags in the kitchens
Old people getting pains in their bones
    Distant hills looking near
The wind whistling through the keyholes
    Swallows flying low
    Crows like gliding kite
    Crickets singing sharply
Dust of road going with the wind (side gaoize)
The ass turning his hind part to the wind
Smoke being blown down the chimney
    Wind from the south
    The cat near the fire
Wild geese flying towards the south
Nuair a tugann an g-asal a goin le gaoil sin somarta baiscige
