- First the land is ploughed and four quarts of seeds put to the Irish acre. The seed is sown broad-cast and the crop has to be wed in June. Afterwards its pulled by hand and put in sheaves and stooked like oats. Next it is taken to the bog and bogged and it is left there until it gets pliable. Then it is taken up and spread out on the grass to dry and bleach. It is then taken home and scutched, cloved, and hackled and after all this is done they make a great fire to burn the shoves and rubbish(continues on next page)
