    a layer of stones. They kept doing that until the kiln was filled. Then they set fire to it and as it was burning they would keep filling it with turf and lime-stones. When it was burned they would leave it there to cool. If they wanted it for any purpose they would take it out. Then they would cover it for the winter lest it would fill with water. Some people burn lime to the present day for white-washing and putting on the land. It
