    As our clansmen that broke for France or Spain
    Lance or life in the reeling charge.
    we wandered away to war and mart

    For never was woman the pulse of our heart
    Like Banba, the mother, mistress, and wife.
    Now out of the south, the north, the west,
    When our bodies die, our wan ghosts sail
    In galley and longship, to find out rest
    Near the crumbling tomb of Grania Uaile.
    Up the swinging surge past Clare Island Light
    Wear silently in our spectre ships,
    And Banba waits through the fragrant night
    To give us at last the touch of her lips.
