- The houses in this district with very few exceptions were all thatched. There were two kinds of thatched houses scallop thatch and more of them tied down with ropes made of hay or straw and it was called súgán thatch.
Most of the houses were built of mud and they were called mud cabins and others were built of stone and mud. The chimneys of houses were very much unlike the chimneys of the present time. There was a breast of timber on the inside(continues on next page)- Collector
