- (continued from previous page)farm are, the cow, horse, bull, pig ass and calf. Our cows have no names. Our cowhouse is called the stall. The cows are tied round the neck with a chain. The local names for the various tyings, are ropes, chains, or by bales (sticks). Long ago in some stalls there was a horse shoe hung off the rafters so as to bring luck on the cattle.
