- On Holy Soul's night a man named Phily "Hennebry" was at our house. When he was going home he saw a lighted candle standing about four feet from the ground at our iron gates. Although it was dashing raining the candle stayed lighting.
Next day was a fair day in Carrick, and a man named Mr. Barry was going to the fair.
The morning was raining and he was a long time trying to get across Halfpenny's Bridge. He was old and when he was at our iron gates he fell in a weakness into a dyke full of water and died. My uncle found him and his little dog trying to pull him out.- Collector
