  1. Garrenstackle is the name of a townland in the parish of Bree. There is a story told of a brave woman, by the name of Mrs. Flood during the '98 period.
Wan day a signed of soldiers was on the march from Enniseorthy to Taghmon. One of the soldiers, when they were passing the house, left the ranks and went in.
The men of the family were away fighting against the English and the only wan at home was Mr. Flood and a Servant-girl. When the soldier went in he attempted to assault the servant girl. But if he did, Mr. Flood struck him on the head with a mallet and killed him. The two women dragged him into the yard and covered him up with faggots.
After a short time the sergeant came in, himself and some more soldiers, to see what was keeping him. They searched around for him but couldn't find him. It was said that they didn't do much searching for him; that the sergeant partly guessed what was after happening to him. So they went away.
When night came the women brought the soldier out and buried him in a Marlhole about a mile away from the house.
