- The poor scholar
There was once a very rich man. He was so rich he didn't know what todo with his money. He lived in a great big house. His name was Broon. There was a long lane or avenue going up to his house, and he employed one hundred men to build walls at each side of this avenue, and to decorate them with precious stones. They were a long time at this job, but at last they got it finished. When they came to the road, they did the piers and the entrance gate a lot better that the rest of the job. When it was finished Broon got the following printed on one of the piers in precious stones.
