- Long ago the people use to have no light at all. When a stranger would come to the house, they would get rushes and peel them, and dip them in grease. They would let the grease soak into them and light them. If they had no grease they would dip them in butter. Some people had different lights than others. Some used to have bogdeal and they would stick the bogdeal in a sod of turn. They used to call the lights spails. They used to cut the bogdeal up in small bits.
