- Some weeds are harmless on the land. Others are very bad and give a lot of trouble to the farmers.The weeds that do most harm to the land are buachallán, dock-leaf, thistles and fuarawns. They smoother up the crop and if not removed they leave the crop useless. Another herb that impoverishes the oat crop especially is the "broska".The herbs that grow on good land are the dandelion the sour leaf, spearmint, and chickenweed.Bad land can be easily recognised where you see nettles and scutchgrass grow. The dandelion is said to be a cure for a bad stomach.Water cress when taken two or three times a day is very good for the blood.
The root of the " comfra " is a great cure for drawing pus out of a sore. The root is scraped and the pieces are mixed with unsalted butter to form a kind of ointment.
