    The meal was not ready for use after being crushed. They had had to seive it to seperate the fine from the coarse. They made the bread with the fine meal. They baked the cakes on griddles. They baked the oat-meal cakes on a round, flat, pan without a rim. When a cake was baking on this it was kept slant ways before the fire by means of a sod or two of turf.
