- It is an old custom with the Irish people on St. Brigid's night to make a cross and it is called St. Brigid's cross. The cross was made from wood or rushes. the rush cross was made by weaving and plaiting rushes.
The wood cross was made from two pieces of sticks and a nail. The centre of the wooden cross is woven with straw. The cross is usually about six inches long and five and a half inches wide.
The cross is made by the people of the house. It is made on St. Brigid's night.
