- (continued from previous page)clogs are made locally. Some time ago clogs were not worn at all. The only kind of leather made at that time was whangs. These were made from the skins of asses. When an ass died the man would come and skin him and bring it home and hang it over the smoke until it was tanned and then whangs were made of it. These lasted for about five years and the maker was called “craiceann na n-asal”. They had special kind of foot coverings called “troighthíní”.
