    Founded 1252 by Maurice Fitzgerald who brought Dominicans & Franciscans into Ireland.
    A Monastry was erected and cemetry consecrated for Friars Sligo Church.

    1414 Monastry burned by a candle (An Ulster
    1415 Indulgence by John XXIII to those who should help to restore church & Abbey.
    20 Friars 1416.
    1416 Monastry re-erected Friar Crian son of Dermot McConagh (Annals of 4 masters)
    1418 Tiernan ORourke King of Breffni was buried there
    1484 Brian McDonagh King of Tirerrill [?] was buried there.
    1596 George Bingham brother of President of Connaught took up quartersin the Abbey when besieging O'Donnell's wardens who were in the Castle & ordered an engine to be constructed for destroying it. This was made from the wood screen & from the bed-chambers of the Friars (Ann. of 4 masters
    Shortly after the friars left. Abbey granted to Wm [?] Taaffe.
    1608 The only Friar left was Fr O Duane but
