- To burn a lime-kiln a man must get turf, broken lime-stone and fire. He must fill up half the lime-kiln with turf, then another layer of stones and so on till the lime-kiln is full. The turf is then lighted and as it burns, the stones get lower, more turf and stones are put on and it is left burning for two days. Then turf-mould is put over all the quench it. When cold it is taken from the kiln and left for a week to slaken.
