- The band-player and the Devil (2)One night a young man went card-
playing to a neighbour's house. He did not lave
it until it was very late. When he was coming
home he saw an old man sitting on the side
of the road. The old man asked the young man to
carry him to a house as he was very lame
and could not walk."Very well" said the young man and he picked
him up on his back and carried him to a
house where the people of the house were saying
the Rosary. The young man said "Well I let you
down off my back" and the old said "No". So the
young man said "I will carry you to another house". "All-right" said the old man.It was not long until they came to a
house where a man and his wife were fighting.
He kept telling the man to kill the woman and
kept telling the woman to kill man until at long
last they killed each other and they devil
went off.[Marget] Margaret O'Hard, Cappanaglough Ballina.
