- Up to about forty years ago all the linen was home-made. It took a lot of time and labour and it was discontinued.
The flax was sown in Spring and pulled when a blue flower appeared. It attained the height of four feet. After pulling it was tied in sheaved and thrown into a lake to soften. It was left there about a fortnight and then it was taken up and spread out thinly to dry. When it was perfectly dry it was "beetled" and afterwards "scutched".
