- People wore shoes for the first time at the age of eighteen or twenty. These shoes were not constantly worn. It sometimes happened that a person's legs were too clumsy and the shoes were not comfortable. but the principal reason why a man did not ware his shoes was that he wanted to share them.
Sometimes a man when ploughing would ware clogs, but these were rather heavy and clumsy while the man working in the neighbouring field wore a pair of troighíní which were made by his wife or daughter bu cutting the vamps off an old worn out pairs of stockings. A woman wore troighíní also to prevent 'irioch'.
At nights the family washed their feet. Water in which potatoes had been boiled was almost always used as this water was soothing. Shoes were made locally by the shoe-maker who lived in each village. The shoemaker's son always learned(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
