“About 60 years ago or more, Pat Cadden, who was an uncle of mine, lived where Martin Cairns lives now, that is, you know, on the south side of the road on your way home to Eskeragh, between Michael Donnelly's and Paddy Holmes'.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)on your way home to Eskeragh, between Michael Donnelly's and Paddy Holmes'. Just to the south side of Cairns, there was and is, a lot of tombstones. They bear no inscription, however, but are generally regarded as tombstones. In my uncles time, to get back to the story, there was a few men fixing the road between here and Owenboy bridge, which is on your way home. The men asked Pat Cadden for the stones to help to finish the road. Pat refused, because he did not think it right to do such a thing. One day however, Pat was at a fair. The man came and took away the stones. They knew full well that Pat would not prosecute them, and his reason for not giving them the stones. They broke the stones and put them on the road at Owenboy bridge. The next morning the road was a living mass of blood.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
