- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the policemen lifted up the slab and asked Ahern to go down and hand up the pots of gold. When Ahern was about to hand the first pot, footsteps were heard approaching; the policemen let the slab fall into place again, and hurried from the scene.
The four robbers who next raised the slab, seeing Ahern standing beneath, thought it was the miner's ghost guarding the treasure. They ran for life. Ahern came out of the vault with the one pot of gold and, finding nobody around, replaced the stone and started for home.
When coming near Lismore it was dawning day. In the wood near the Crooked Bridge he hid the pot of gold, intending to come back for it next night. But, when he returned, he could not find the place where he hid the gold. In the year 1824 he hid the gold and it is still undiscovered.- Faisnéiseoir
