- Just a half a century ago, a four-masted sailing ship called the Alfred-de-Snow was on its way from San Francisco to Falmouth with grain. A storm arose and on the fourth day of January she tried to make for Waterford Harbour. The sails blew away and she blew in on the rocks near Dunmore East just below Passage. She foundered on the Wexford coast at a place named Broom Hill, and all hands were lost. At the present time the fishermen fishing near the spot got warnings of an approaching storm. They hear cries just like the cries of drowning men. Whey they hear these cries they make for home at once.
