- Blackbirds and other birds died for the want of food during heavy snow storms about the year 1879. In January 1881 it snowed for seven weeks and in 1903 there was a very big storm and chimneys and roofs of houses were knocked down and many lives were lost, when slates and chimneys were sent flying in all directions. It is said that every season the young robins kill the old and this denotes the red breast and why they are very scarce. As high as a castle, as weak as a wattle and all the king's horses cant pull me down (ans. smoke).
