If the leg were detachable the leg was taken off when the table was not in use and then the “leaf” hung downwards along the wall. The bread then used was oaten meal bread and Indian meal bread. The oaten bread was baked before the fire against the grid iron. The Indian bread was made on pans. Porringers were the vessels used before cups became common.
