- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)On the wedding day, a great feast is held at the home of the bride. The neighbours all flock and gather to join in the merriment. They feast, dance and sing all day long, and late at night, the old people gather round the fire in the kitchen and tell stories of weddings in their days, whilst the young folk to the sound of the bagpipes and fiddles, dance themselves into a fever in the decorated and festooned barn.
“Strawboys” were very common at the wedding celebrations. They are styled “the uninvited guests.” They are dressed in straw and are supposed to bring luck to the newly-married couples. They usually come and knock at the door and ask for permission to get in. This is allowed for they are welcomed with pleasure with their songs, dances and jokes.- Bailitheoir
