    reached the wreck but when they tried to swing themselves up they were in such an exhausted state, that they let go their holds sank again into the water and were lost. Patrick Brogan strange to say could not swim but somehow or other he reached the shore and gave the alarm. But five were drowned and the sole survivor is still alive in the townland of Drumbar about two miles from Donegal. When they were drowned a pall of darkness spread around the district. The Coastguards saved Robert Brogan but when they took him to the shore he was in such a bad state that he died.
