Sometimes Shrove Tuesday is called "Márt Na Smut", because any girl who doesn't get a man was angry and she had a "Smut" on her.
Shrove Tuesday was always a (sen) "Set" night. Everybody used to get tea for their supper on that night. The young people would enjoy themselves because that was the last night's sport until Lent was over. Lent began the following day, Ash Wednesday.
