- We put down potatoes at home.
My father prepares the ground. We use byre manure. We let the tops grow up over the ground. Then we spread the manure in the drills and cover it with clay. Wooden ploughs were used long ago. The spades they used were bought in the shops. Some people open the drills with a spade and line and others with a horse and plough.
When the potatoes are blossomed they are sprayed to save them from the blight. They fill a barrel with clean water. Then they get a bag, tie the bluestone in it and let it hang in the water until dissolved.
They then throw in a can of melted soda and the water turns blue. They get a machine and spray them.- Bailitheoir
