The British soldiers went to occupation of the Barracks about the year 1847. They did not remain long in occupation, and during their stay in the Barracks they were supplied with turf by the people of the town of Meenmore. This accounts for the scarcity of turf in the townland.
After the soldiers evacuated the Barracks it was sold to a man named Keown, a merchant at Burtonport.
Some years later he sold it to a Revenue Officer called Bold. He and his family resided in it and when he died Mr. John Herdman of Sion Mills bought it and used it as a summer
