Wine, whiskey, porter, etc., were given round to the guests when they arrived and soon after, the dinner was served up. There was beef, ham, fowl and vegetables of different kinds and in some places it was thought unlucky not to have at least one roasted gander. There was always a huge pudding and everyone enjoyed the feast.
Later on the groom brought his bride to her new home escorted by a few very special friends. It was not considered lucky for her to return to her old home before a month.
When she did revisit it, another feast was held.
It was thought lucky for a bride to wear
Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue.
Lucky days and lucky months for weddings
