It was so said that there were no stones on the ground when they were attached, but during the battle the stones became plentiful, and it was supposed to be the fairies who carried the stones. So the Protestants suffered a severe defeat, and the Catholics won the great victor, tales of which has been handed down through the generations till the present day.There is another story about a Holy-Well at Conwal, not far from Letterkenny, which was filled up with stones by a Protestant man, but after some time, it broke out again nearer the road, and at the present day people go there to get cured of toothache and other ailments. There are two ruined monastries not far from the town, one at Leck and the other at Temple-Douglas.
