Oat bread was the most used in olden times. It was made like this: oatmeal, baking-soda, sugar and butter were mixed together. Then hot water was added and the whole mixed till it became soft enough to make a round scone. Then this was rolled out thinly and left standing before a good fire till hard on both sides. This is oatbread and the cake is called a "bunóg".
Boxty was another bread which was often made long ago. It was a kind of mixture of raw potatoes and flour baked together. The potatoes were peeled and sliced and mixed with flour and baked. They formed a sort of bread like potato-cake but were(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
