The houses are nearly all two storey slated houses except a few one storey thatched ones. There are a few three storey houses also including the hotel.
There are five or six people of seventy or over. Only two of these can speak the Irish language. They are all good story tellers. Their names are Mrs. Conaghan, Mrs. McCreadie, Robert Hazlett, Andy Gallagher, and Hughie Crerand. Mrs Conaghan and Mandy Gallagher speak Irish.
There are more houses in this town now than there were a hundred years ago. There are a few old ruins because of the people emigrating.
The local place names are Jonnie's Brae, Pat's Parlour, Madgie's Lane, Stoney Park [?]undering inns, Green Hill, Rosie's field, Donkey's Brae, Coach Brae, Mill Brae, and the Russian.
