- There is not much bird lore about here. The robin is supposed to have got its red bread when Our Lord was walking through a field of corn. It is said that His head was bleeding and the Jews were following Him by the drops of blood. A little brown bird sitting on a bush as Jesus went by saw the Jews following the drops of blood it flew down to the ground and sipped the blood off the grass. While it was doing so some blood dropped off its beak on its breast. When the Jews reached the place where the robin had sipped the blood they asked it if it had seen a man pass by. The robin said it had not but a wren said that Jesus passed by and the wren showed the way to go and so they got HimJerry McConnell 20th January, 1938
