- Weather Lore
Always before a storm arrives it shows some sign either by clouds or insects.
It is said when the crickets sing aloud it a very bad sign of the weather and also when the sky is red in the east.
When a storm is near the yellow hammer sings and the seagulls scream and cry and dive down on the whin bushes for spiders.
It is never good weather when they sit on the land.
When a fog comes up the glen it is a sign of good weather and if it goes down the glen it is a sign of bad weather.
When a shower comes the hen's run but if it is going to be a wet day they never run; they just keep picking away in the field.
Insects and clocks hum and fly about through the air when it is good weather.
But they are never seen in bad weather because they are in hiding places.
