- Marriages take place before and after Lent. No people get married during Lent. Some people say there are lucky days for getting married such as Thursday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Unlucky days are Saturday, Sunday, Friday and Monday. It is said "A wet day is sorrow for the bride."
Matches are still made in our District. They are thought to be very unlucky. When a person is getting married all who are invited to the wedding give presents. The father and mother always give a present of money Articles such as lamps and delf (?) are given, also tea, table-cloths and bed-clothes.
People are not married in the houses nowadays but marriages did take place in the houses about sixty years ago. A custom observed in the(continues on next page)- Informant
