- In ancient times there were coopers in this lower part of Inishowen. One family of them lived at Whitecastle and another in Ballyargus. Although they do not work the trade today they are still called the "coopers".
They made churns, tubs, and wooden buckets. The churn was made in two parts. The top was called the crib and the lower part was called the bottom. They both met together and fitted exactly, and were held there by an iron hoop.
The tub was made wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. At each side there was a stave longer than the rest and these formed a handle.- Bailitheoir
