- There is a forge in Carrowkeel. The name of the blacksmith is John McLaughlin. The roof is made of slates and a window in it. It is near the Carrowkeel river.
His father was not a blacksmith.
He has a pair of bellows to blow the fire and make it bright. The bellows are made of leather and wood. They are narrow at one end and wide at the other. The tools he works with are a sledge, hammer, chisel, nippers, and a punch for making holes in horse shoes. He makes horse shoes and shoes horses. People generally go to the forge on wet days. They go to get socks of ploughs fixed, Harrow tins pointed. He makes ploughs and grubbers also.
He has a big anvil on a block of a tree. He makes hoops for cart wheels, and he puts the hoops on the wheels out in the open air. A blacksmith is a very strong man. The forge has three Windows and a door. He burns coal in the fire. He always has to make the iron red before he can turn it into any shape he wants it.- Bailitheoir
