- When my father is going to set potatoes,he generally puts them in a field that corn has been in last year.
The land is ploughed during the winter. In the spring he harrows it to make it fine, and grubs it. When he is finished grubbing it is ready for opening the drills.
When he opens the drills the manure is carted out in carts to the field. The men spread it in the bottom of the drills.
When they are making ready the sets they make a set wherever they see an eye in the potato. The sets are laid in the bottom of the drills. They are then covered.
In about three weeks when the new potatoes come up they have to get hoed. The weeds have to be gathered also.- Bailitheoir
